Most Fuel Efficient Cars: New 2008 Models, Including Hybrid Cars and SUVs

These tables present the most fuel efficient cars by vehicle class. Table 1 includes new 2008 hybrid cars which are currently available for nationwide purchase. Table 2 presents new 2008 hybrid suvs, pickups and minivans. Use these tables to compare hybrid cars and SUVs against their gas-only brethren.

The table provides hybrid car prices (base MSRP) along with each vehicles calculated Carbon Footprint (tons per year CO2)

Selecting which vehicle to purchase is the most important fuel economy decision you'll make. The difference between a car that gets 20 MPG and one that gets 30 MPG amounts to $1,020 per year (assuming 15,000 miles of driving annually and gas prices at $4.08).

That's $5,100 extra in fuel costs over five years!
